A Message from the Alliance Chair

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Alliance for Community Media Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce the hiring of our new Executive Director Sylvia Strobel.

Sylvia Strobel is a founding partner in the entertainment law firm Lehmann Strobel PLC, where she has provided legal and business affairs services to the entertainment community since 1996. She works with a global clientele of production companies and individual artists. From 2005-2009, Sylvia served as President and General Manager of the Pennsylvania Public Television Network, where she oversaw the network operations, state funding and grants administration for the Commonwealth's eight public television stations. Prior to founding Lehmann Strobel, Sylvia worked as corporate counsel for Twin Cities Public Television (KTCA/KTCI) in Minneapolis/St. Paul, and in business affairs at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Her education includes a BA in Biology (St. Olaf College), a Juris Doctor (Wm. Mitchell College of Law) and a Masters in Business Administration (University of Minnesota). She is Chair of the national board of directors of the Alliance for Women in Media (formerly known as American Women in Radio and Television), and is a member of the National Press Club, Women in Film and Video DC, Radio Television Digital News Association and the Federal Communications Bar Association.

Sylvia currently lives in Lancaster, PA where she spends a lot of time gardening and hiking. Sylvia and her family will be relocating to Baltimore over the summer.

Sylvia will begin on August 1st but you will have the opportunity to meet and welcome her this July at our 2010 National Conference and Trade Show in Pittsburgh.

We have been extraordinarily fortunate to have had Greg Epler-Wood serve as our Interim Managing Director these past months and thankfully Greg will remain with us through the end of July.

I would like to thank our Board of Directors and Search Committee for their efforts in conducting this extensive hiring search. Their commitment to the process and individual efforts has resulted in strengthening our organization now and as we look to the future with our new Executive.

I look forward to seeing you all in Pittsburgh this coming July.

Most Sincerely,

Debra Rogers, Chair
Alliance for Community Media
